My Own Place, Inc. is dedicated to promoting independent living and lifestyles for each and every one of our clients. At our core, we believe that everyone should be able to live their lives with the same level of freedom, dignity, and autonomy as anyone else. We strive to provide our clients with the resources and support they need in order to achieve this.

Our team consists of highly skilled professionals from various disciplines who are knowledgeable about disabilities and other life circumstances that can limit access to independence. Our commitment to providing quality care begins with creating individualized plans for each client based on their unique needs. We work with them to develop a plan that best encompasses the goals they wish to accomplish in life.

In addition to creating personalized care plans, we also provide education and advocacy services that enable clients to gain access to necessary resources needed for independent living. These services may include financial assistance, transportation, housing options, employment resources, healthcare advice and more. Our team members have been trained in various areas such as nutrition counseling, disability rights laws, mental health awareness, coping strategies for stress management and more; so no matter what challenges one may face we are equipped to handle it.

We pride ourselves on being an organization that provides comprehensive support services tailored specifically for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through our efforts we hope that everyone can experience a better quality of life free from limits imposed by their circumstances or limitations due to any form of disability or illness.

My Own Place provides transportation services for medical appointments, along with accompaniment of a staff person who best knows the program participant, when needed.

Our Mission

It is the mission of My Own Place, Inc. to improve the quality of life of all individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities by maximizing one’s independency through advocating and providing a standard of living that is driven by the individual’s choice, preferences, and desires.

Our Current Goals

Although donations of any sort are always appreciated, our most important goals include means of transportation or land. Having a working vehicle would allow us to pick up more donations and get them to where they need to go, along with transportation and moving services for our family here at My Own Place. Additionally, land can be used to build structures like additional homes for residents, or space which can then be used as donation drop-off points.

Land or Real Estate

There are many reasons why land is important to charities like ours. Land provides a place for people to gather and share their experiences. It also gives My Own Place along with other charities a way to connect with the community and offer services that help even MORE people in need. Additionally, land can provide an income for My Own Place, which is essential to its operations, and can also be used to promote the charity’s cause and raise awareness about its work.

All of these reasons underscore why vehicles & land are such important assets for My Own Place. With your gracious donations to our family, we will be able to provide vital services to the community furthermore and make a difference in the lives of those we serve. Community Partner

DC Coalition of Disability Service Providers gather providers who serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in D.C. They strive to coordinate best practices, services and share vision within the community. Executive Director, Ian Paregol is the Executive Director of the Coalition. We are a member in good standing of the Coalition. My Own Place Inc. CEO, Kim Scott, is active on their Board of Directors and many District task forces.
